Biography
Xuanlynn Wang (1994.TW) is a versatile artist whose practice spans material, photography, material creation, and performance, converging to explore the intricate dance between humanity and the natural world. Presently, she holds a research position at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Antwerp, Belgium, having established her residence there after completing her M.A. degree at the institution in 2020.
After her studies in fashion, the realization of the substantial waste generated in fashion creation propelled her toward a mission of reconciling ecological consciousness with artistic expression. She immerses herself in the experimentation of natural materials, rooted in the fundamental aesthetics of environmental art. The creative journey orbits the nuanced interrelationship between subjects of human being and their natural environments.
Artist statement
“If beauty can be captured in an instant, the temporary last long enough.”—Xuanlynn Wang
Xuanlynn Wang, her artworks stand as a testament to this mission, embodying a fusion of the natural environment, symbolized by the materials employed, and the human form. She focuses on the subtle details of the moment and encapsulates them through the lens of photography. This synthesis of mediums gives birth to a distinctive visual language, prompting profound reflections on the intrinsic beauty of the organic world and our profound connection with it.
At the heart of Lynn's artistic vision lies the symbiotic relationship between objects and their surroundings. The human body becomes a canvas, illustrating our intimate bond with the natural realm, while the materials sourced from nature serve as the very essence of her artistic expression. Lynn contends that art manifests as a testament to the intricate interdependence between individuals, the natural world, and our inherent desire for creative expression. By weaving these elements together, she invites viewers to contemplate the significance of our collective relationship with the environment and the transformative power of artistic exploration.
